Every retailer and many distributors and manufacturers now take Credit Cards for customer payments because of the convenience for their customers and/or for points and miles earned by corporations using Credit cards.

While there are true costs associated with credit card processing, processors and Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs) are not required to disclose these costs to businesses. The electronic processing/merchant service industry is by in large unregulated when it comes to billing and sales practices. Because of this, there are hundreds if not thousands of ways in which businesses are billed for processing and the sales practices utilized to sell those billing schemes are often misleading and sometimes, unethical.

In addition, it is standard practice for processing organizations to continually increase their clients pricing on their electronic processing services with little to no warning, often sneaking the additional fees and price increases in under the radar. Due to these standard business practices by the processing organizations over the last 30 years the paradigm is one in which businesses feel helpless and angst towards the processing companies and card associations.
